  2. Ziegfeld Girl (1941) marked the first major turning point in Lana Turner's career. As a result of her performance receiving good notices, the executives at MGM decided to elevate her to full-fledged stardom. After Ziegfeld Girl, there will no more "series" films as in Andy Hardy films and no more "college B-movies" to be on Lana's film schedule. This film was the first to present Lana a true blonde, this shade would soon become a "Turner" trademark. It was during filming that Turner's role of Shelia Regan would be expanded and she gets her one big moment towards the end of the film. As she descends down a staircase (the music is song, You Stepped Out Of A Dream" which had been her big number) she pulls it all together. Every inch a showgirl as she reaches the bottom she suddenly collapses to her death. Thus, Turner secured herself top stardom at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer where she worked until 1955 when she was loaned-out to Warner Brothers to film The Sea Chase with John Wayne. Lana Turner's last film under her MGM contract was Diane made in 1956.
