Sargent by lamplight - two early paintings by John Singer Sargent


Fête Familiale (The Birthday Party.) Portrait of French artist Albert Besnard, his wife, sculptor Charlotte Dubray, and their eldest child, Robert, 1885 or 1887.
It's always been a mystery as to why Sargent seems to have painted his friend Besnard without eyes...?
