Orpheus by Gerrit van Honthorst, circa 1614-16

Gerrit van Honthorst (also called Gerard; November 4, 1592, Utrecht – April 27, 1656, Utrecht), was an important and prolific painter of the Dutch Golden Age.

I adore this painting; it's just delightful.  (I really hope its current state of conservation is better than how it appears in this reproduction.)  I also really like another of his paintings, Shepherdess Adorned with Flowers, 1627, at the Seattle Art Museum.

I'm afraid this isn't a good reproduction; it's quite wonderful in person.
