Life And The Arts...From A Retrograde Perspective
Her only trip to Europe was to England and she was accompanied by her trusted and beloved manager and confident James Timony. Mae West was asked what was her greatest ambition by an English interviewer on the deck of the Queen Mary, she replied “come up and see me some time and I’ll let you know”. Mae’s Diamond Lil tour took her to Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, Glasgow and ended in London, she earned £2000 a week. In London she attended a fashion show and commented “it’s not the dress, it’s the filling that counts”. While in England Mae developed a liking for scones with clotted cream, they can be filling. On return to America, Mae was asked what she thought of men in Britain, she replied “ they’re reserved and I’m not”.
ReplyDeleteThe dress seen in the photos was sold on eBay for 920 dollars in 2011.
The Mae West blog has exhaustive info about Mae, go over and see it some time.
