Secrétaire formant serre-papiers/Cartonnier - attributed to Jean-François Oeben, circa 1760



Secrétaire formant serre-papiers/cartonnier (secretary/filing cabinet) with two sets of tambour doors, the interior containing a total of ten drawers and a further set of tambour doors: tulipwood, kingwood, and sycamore parquetry, bronze doré mounts, brèche d'Alep marble top. Height 52¾ inches; width 39¾ inches; depth 16½ inches.

Attributed to Jean-François Oeben, circa 1760, this is an early example of the archeologically inspired goût grec that would come fully into flower in the following two decades.
