Criss-cross



These two toilettes - a black ribbed silk ensemble (Maison Laferrière, Paris, 1900) and a white silk gauze wedding dress (Madame Herzfelder, New York, 1902) - make a wonderful comparison; both employ a precisely laid out woven ribbon motif, but to a strongly contrasting - though equally dramatic - effect.
