Mercury About to Behead Argus, by Ubaldo Gandolfi, circa 1770-1775

Ubaldo Gandolfi (1728, San Matteo della Decima –1781, Ravenna), Italian painter of the late Baroque period, active mainly in and near Bologna. He was from a large family of artists. His sons, his bothers, his nephews and niece were all artists and, together, they are considered the last great representatives of the grandiloquent Bolognese school.

  1. An interesting and rather curious pose for Mercury. Its as though he's saying, "Watch me do this dude's head off".
