George Richmond, self-portrait, 1840

George Richmond (28 March 1809, Brompton – 19 March 1896, London), English painter. In his youth he was a member of The Ancients, a group of followers of William Blake.  Later in life he established a career as a portrait painter; he portrayed very many of the most eminent British personages of his times, first in watercolor and crayon, and later in oil.  He was the son of miniaturist Thomas Richmond, the brother of portraitist Thomas Richmond, and the father of the painter William Blake Richmond.
