Sleeping Dog, by Gerrit Dou, 1650

Gerrit Dou (7 April 1613, Leiden – 9 February 1675, Leiden), sometimes Gerard, Douw or Dow, important painter of the Dutch Golden Age.  He is best known for his genre scenes, his use of trompe l'oeil, and for night scenes lit only by candlelight.

  1. I am crazy for canine portraits & works depicting a dog somewhere in the piece. Thanks for this.
