Madame Philippe Desbassayns de Richemont and Her Son, Eugène by Marie-Guillemine Benoist, 1802


Jeanne Eglé Fulcrande Catherine Mourgue (1778, Montpellier - 1855), called Eglé, who married
 Philippe Panon Desbassayns de Richemont (1774 - 1840) in 1799.  Their son, Eugène (1800 - 1859).

Marie-Guillemine Benoist (December 18, 1768, Paris – October 8, 1826, Paris), born Marie-Guillemine de Laville-Leroux, a French genre, history, and portrait painter,  She studied with both Vigée-Lebrun and David.  She was very successful during the Napoleonic period but, after the her husband was given an important government position under the Restoration, she was forced to give up her career.

By far, her most famous work is this:

The remarkable Portrait d'une négresse of 1800.
