  1. I had no idea he had children or died at the age of 35! These are great -you can see the tenderness in them.

    1. His son Stephen died at thirty-five. (A week after the accident, that had also killed his wife. So sad....) The prolific father lived to the age of sixty-eight. Though some say his life was probably shortened by the trauma of having been - pointlessly - interned as an enemy alien during WWI. A British citizen since 1914, with a British wife and five British sons, he was still held for over a year - and not even allowed to paint for most of that time. Wretched.
