Portrait of an artist, by Boris Valentinovich Shcherbakov, 1937



Boris Valentinovich Shcherbakov (1916 - 1996), Russian artist, best known for his landscapes.  From 1933 to 1939 he studied at the Academy of Arts where his teachers were Isaak Brodsky, Vladimir Yakovlev, and Pyotr Shukhmin.

This elegant portrait of a colleague was painted when Shcherbakov was just twenty-one.
