I've been Facebook friends with German photographer Kerstin Kunze for - well, I don't even know how long. But we're great fans of each other's work. Her element, her medium is water. But as she says below, it's so very much more than that.

"... Even as a child I was happiest in the water. It’s where I feel at home. WATER IS MY LOVER. HE MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD. The thing I love most about swimming is the feeling of water caressing my skin. It’s an ancient force, that envelops and fulfills me. Of course, I’m interested in far more than simply photographing the water. I employ my favorite element as a symbolic image of life. Water becomes the mirror of life. ~ I often work with unspectacular subjects, such as a ripple in the water or an exhaled breath under water. By capturing a single moment in an image, this act becomes something sensational. Perhaps it’s exactly that, which I love so much – the magic of the smallest moment. The eternity, which can be encapsulated in a moment. Timelessness."

Her images are always technically brilliant and exquisitely beautiful. Always inspiring. And then, today, I saw the two amazing photographs above. I connected with them immediately and strongly and had to ask if I might share them here. I think the most powerful reactions to art are when the viewer doesn't even really understand why they find the work so incredibly compelling. There's just something that bypasses reason and forms a sort of bond. A kind of mystical connection. I felt that way about these two photographs.

Another beautiful, related image, Silentium.
