Auctioned by Sotheby's, 3 June 2025.
"The articulated plaque of foliate design, millegrain-set with rose-cut diamonds, suspending a large principal pear-shape diamond* within an openwork surround set with old brilliant-cut and cushion-shaped diamonds issuing similarly-set tassels, each terminated with pear-shape diamond drop, with 12 rows of pearls leading to diamond-set spacers and a velvet ribbon, with similarly-set openwork clasp. Total diamond weight approximately 42.00 - 44.00 carats."
* Actually, Sotheby's gets this wrong, as there are no pear-shaped diamonds in this piece. Each of the six pear-shaped drops is made up of a round stone topped with three smaller stones, giving only the impression of a similarly shaped single diamond.
And to think I just missed the auction--it could have been mine for a mere 304800 pounds! If I had it I'd have paid it actually, this one is a stunner.
ReplyDeleteCan the lady in the top photo even cough safely? The flat part of the necklace decoration is pressed firmly against her thyroid.
ReplyDeleteIt looks odd, that image; I suspect it's been heavily Photoshopped. Perhaps in the unaltered image the thing looks less uncomfortable...?
