To carry water, to carry wine, to carry light - Roman glass vessels

These examples of Roman glass are nearly all of simple shape and utilitarian purpose; I wasn't interested in featuring works of virtuosic technique. I really only looked for relatively modest vessels whose color and surface patina I found beautiful. The images more than suffice, I think, so I'll spare you an ESSAY on Roman glass! If you really want that, though, Wikipedia has an extensive article on the history of glass production in Ancient Rome.

  1. To carry water or light I understand totally. But only two of the glass objects look narrow enough to hold easily in one hand. Perhaps wealthy Romans drank differently.

    1. Haha! I really don't know, but I think most of these are quite small. : )

  2. Vakker presentasjon av enkle glass-kopper fra romersk antikken.
De er små og delikate som en demitasse, det er et rart de har overlevd.
