Selling dystopia - early promotional artwork for "Metropolis"

The original artwork that was adapted for so many of the images here was by Werner Graul (1905-84).

  1. Metropolis, the film that almost bankrupted UFA (Universum Film Aktigesselschaft)
Brigette Helm, the lead actress had to leave Germany in 1935 because her husband was Jewish.
They moved to Switzerland. Brigette never spoke of her film career again, she would only say she was disgusted by the Nazis. -Rj/IE

  2. The film Metropolis, so art-deco and avant-garde in style. Had the VHS tape of the film in the 80s, a poor truncated version, even like that, the film was impressive. Now they have DVD/Blu-Ray versions that restored the film quality and restored missing sections, thought long lost, now the film is even more impressive.
They have a version with a new music score , I prefer the version with the original score.

    1. Yes, we have a DVD of the most complete (so far) version; wonderful thing! And the original, glorious Huppertz score is the - only - one we'd ever listen to. : )
