Randomly PETS II

Park Avenue, New York City, by Garry Winogrand, 1959.

Since gathering these images, I've found that several of them were originally sourced from The Vintage Dog blog, a wonderful collection of cabinet cards featuring... dogs.

  1. This brought to mind Japanese photographer Miyoko Ihara's lovely series about her grandmother Misao and the odd eyed cat Fukumaru:

  2. In the 1980s I lived in California for the first time and a friend collected Victorian photos with pets. He had an outstanding collection and I wonder if some of these were part. They are quite rare because the posers were required to pose for long periods of time and of course pets would rarely sit still long enough to appear clear.

  3. The woman with the rabbit, which struck me as the only non cat / dog, also appears to be photographed here in Washington on Thomas Circle where I lived for many many years! (in an adjacent apartment, not in the actual circle) -haha. Same statue and the church in the background.

    1. Small world! Lovely to be able to match things up with the past like this. (And I'm so glad you had a roof over your head at the time of your residence!)

Aside from the concluding monkey, there - is - one other non-cat-/dog. There's another rabbit toward the beginning of all this. Although someone on Facebook mentioned they thought the bunny looked less a pet and rather something waiting to be... stewed! Oh, dear.... ; )
