Johannes Enschedé jr., his wife Johanna Swaving, and their son Johannes Enschedé III, by Wybrand Hendriks, 1796.

The painting's surface is a coarsely woven linen or canvas. The condition isn't terribly good, and the painter isn't terribly adept. The little family is neither handsome nor graceful. But, golly, are they stylish! From their furniture to their clothes, they are impressively au courant. (Well maybe not Parisian current, but up to the moment Dutch!)

Johanna Elisabeth Swaving (17 December 1754, Weesp – 26 June 1826, Haarlem), Dutch businesswoman, publisher, and civic leader. She ran her husband's business after his death.

Johannes Enschedé III (7 March 1785, Haarlem – 8 October 1866, Haarlem), Dutch publisher, printer, and regent.
