  2. Another tour de force of curated images, each in its own way worthy of discussion. Yet the one which leaves the strongest impression is that of the 1860s photograph of woman with pince-nez...bordering on camp, or perhaps a private joke. That she was no "oil painting" matters not.

    1. I love the old photographs of lorgnetted ladies looking directly at the camera. There are rather a lot of them, oddly enough; Queen Olga of the Hellenes left us many examples. Unlike so many of us who whisk off our spectacles any time a camera is pointed our way, it seems there wasn't any shame attached to ocular aids back then. : )
