When a brunette bombshell goes red - Jane Russell in The Revolt of Mamie Stover, 1956

Have you ever heard of "The Revolt of Mamie Stover"? I sure hadn't. But I stumbled across this fabulous first image of its star, Jane Russell, and... wow! With that red wig and a wardrobe by Travilla, she out-drag-queens most drag-queens. So I scoured the internet and found more of the portraits taken to promote the film. The overblown Hollywood glamour of the Fifties, in lurid color. I had to do a lot of work to make them post-ready, but I think it was worth it; they sizzle!

  1. Gorgeous.

I can't believe the French and Germans thought "Bungalow for Women" would make a sexy title for this movie.

    1. I'm guessing "bungalow" suggests a little something more to them than it does to us...? ; )

  2. Have you seen the movie yet? I keep thinking how uncomfotable most of those fabrics must have been where it touched the skin. Also noticed the sheer flesh color inserts over the breasts in the navy blue number. Today's starlets wouldn't bother!

  3. These are fabulous! So many thanks!

I don't know what "La Descarada" translates as - and I'm half afraid to check - but it certainly sounds risqué!

    1. "The brazen one"... as in hussy, tramp, etc.; the character is a prostitute, after all. : )
