From the Streetcar

Nailed was also gracious enough to include an image of my - unfinished - painting, "Autum Into Winter". (Detail.)

I'm so incredibly flattered and grateful that Nailed Magazine has chosen to publish a piece of my short fiction. This is a first for me - and I'm very excited! I'd like to thank editors Matty Byloos and Kirsten Larson for the honor of being featured on this fantastic literary website, and Domi J. Shoemaker for hosting the "non-salon" where Kirsten first heard an excerpt from the story. Mostly, I need to thank my tough-as-nails editrix, my sweet wife Gigi, who kicked my butt through 12+ drafts. I'm a little shy about writing - I'm a painter, after all - and G was so encouraging and necessarily quite ruthless. Which was just what I needed/wanted. She's a great teacher, and if this story succeeds at all it's because of her hard work.

(Detail II; there is more at the top and much more to-be on the bottom.)

My fiction writing is nothing like my painting. And nothing like the rather frilly non-fiction I dole out here. If it doesn't appeal, we can all just pretend it never happened and just go on as before, eh? : )  You can read my piece here.
