Edie: her glamorous youth, late 1930s - early 1940s

Edith Bouvier Beale (7 November 1917 – circa 9 January 2002), American socialite, fashion model and cabaret performer. She was a first cousin of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Lee Radziwill, and became widely known for her participation in the 1975 independent documentary film Grey Gardens by Albert and David Maysles. "Little Edie", a famously "staunch character", has become a beloved and legendary cult figure.

These are some images from her seemingly charmed youth, most more than thirty years before the filming of Grey Gardens.

Modeling a bridesmaid's dress.
She's obviously in fancy dress here, but I don't know for what occasion.

  2. So beautiful, so confident and can she ever wear a hat! Note the handwriting on the debut dress photo. I believe it is quite similar to Jackie's; perhaps a style favored by girls of a certain class?

  4. Lil Edie. The beautiful rose that always blossomed. Even when the weeds and thorns grew around her. Rest in peace.
