Three Russian portraits by Sergei Zaryanko

Pavel Petrovich Melnikov, engineer and administrator, 1869.
Count Fyodor Petrovich Litke, explorer and geographer,1854.
Christopher Akimovich Lazarev, Chamberlain and State Councilor, 1851.

I know next to nothing about these gentlemen - and for once I'm restraining my pedantic, biographic impulse - but the three portraits would certainly provide a definition for the expression "a speaking likeness"; the images are so vivid and expressive, one can almost imagine the sound of their voices.

Sergei Zaryanko, see here.

  1. Wow, these are lovely. Such a soft touch on the faces and so particular. Yes, you can almost imagine their voices. What a perfect way to put it.
