The family of Archduchess Marie Valerie and Archduke Franz Salvator, circa 1917

Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria (April 22, 1868, Buda – September 6, 1924, Vienna), born Marie Valerie Mathilde Amalie, was the fourth and last child born into the unhappy marriage of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary and his beautiful, neurotic wife, the Empress Elisabeth.  In 1890 she married her close cousin Archduke Franz Salvator  (August 21, 1866, Altmünster – April 20, 1939, Vienna), born Franz Salvator Maria Joseph Ferdinand Karl Leopold Anton von Padua Johann Baptist Januarius Aloys Gonzaga Rainer Benedikt Bernhard, of the Tuscan branch of the vast Habsburg family.  They had ten children together; the last child, Agnes, was born and died the same day in 1911.
