His commercial clients may have supported him in private but had no comment and either distanced themselves or condemned him public. In the end his career faltered due to that loss and new talented photographers coming to the fore. His salon of gay friends and lovers didn't help either, some of whom used him financially. Also, his own spend-thrift ways when he could least afford it, leaving GPL in debt.
